
Two schools in Cumbria won the opportunity for Mandeville the Olympic Mascot to visit their school and community by entering a competition through the Get Set - the official Education Programme.

An Olympic and Paralympic first, the London 2012 Inspire programme officially recognises outstanding non-commercial projects and events inspired by the Games. Sport, culture, education, sustainability, volunteering and business opportunities all feature.
LOCOG has recognised XX Inspire mark projects here in Cumbria. Passport 2 Pedalling, Sport Unlimited and Cumbria Talented Athlete Ambassadors to name only a few.
Free cycling activities are being used to kick-start the Passport 2 Pedalling Cycle Challenge, which calls on people to ride 2,012 Cumbrian miles before the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games more

The Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are about more than sport. London 2012 is also staging a Cultural Olympiad - a series of events to showcase the UK's arts and culture to the rest of the world.

As part of the Sky Living for Sport initiative Solway school won a visit form Darren Campbell, Olympic Sprinter. He arrived at the school on Thursday 1st July where he gave an assembly for Solway students.In this he explained how he had a dream about winning Olympic Gold and that, even though he was from a housing estate in Manchester, he would obtain it. He told students about his life and the things he had to do to be successful and that anyone can have a dream and do well in life, as long as they are prepared to
work hard. After the talk Darren answered students questions and presented trophies to the schools winning teams.
Darren visited other schools in Allerdale School Sport Partnership.
The Olympic Torch Relay in 2012. The Relay will take the inspiration of the Games the length and breadth of the UK over 70 days, beginning 18 May 2012. The nation will be able to support the Relay watch this space to find out more about the the arrival of the Flame!

In 2012, London will host the Olympic Games for the third time. It will also mark the return of the Paralympic Games to the country of their birth. Our four-year Cultural Olympiad will reach a crescendo with the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 27th July 2012. It starts a 60-day festival of sport and culture across the UK.
